[ARCHIVED] Prepare Your Site for Spring Runoff

Warmer weather is just around the corner. Are you getting ready to finish an outdoor project you started last year? Perhaps you are installing an in-ground pool or finishing a house addition. Did you apply for your Natural Resources Management Permit?

Warmer weather is just around the corner. Are you getting ready to finish an outdoor project you started last year? Perhaps you are installing an in-ground pool or finishing a house addition. Did you apply for your Natural Resources Management Permit (NRMP)?

An NRMP is required for projects that disturb 3500 square feet or 20 cubic feet of soil or more. An NRMP is also required for all commercial projects, industrial projects, garage additions, in-ground pools, new home construction, home additions (decks, family rooms, porches), retaining walls 4 feet high or higher, and significant tree removal. Still not sure if you need a permit? Questions? Contact Natural Resources at 952-953-2463.

Whether or not you need a permit, before you dig, remember to install properly functioning erosion and sediment controls. This will reduce the amount of sediment that leaves your yard and washes into our lakes, ponds and wetlands.
