Watershed Management Organizations

All of the water that drains off a regional area composes a watershed. This includes any natural drainage from open space as well as from developed areas such driveways and streets. The size of a watershed can be become larger through engineering efforts.

The City of Apple Valley is part of two watershed management organizations:

Black Dog Watershed. Made up primarily of the cities of Burnsville and Lakeville, approximately 8 percent of Apple Valley is in the Black Dog Watershed.

Vermillion Watershed. Most of the City of Apple Valley falls within the Vermillion Watershed, with most of Apple Valley's surface water eventually draining to the Vermillion River.
