Wetland Health Evaluation Project

Since 1998, the City of Apple Valley has participated in the Wetland Health Evaluation Project (WHEP). Volunteers monitor the health of four wetland sites in the City of Apple Valley annually. This continues a partnership with the Dakota County Environmental Wetland Health Evaluation Project which evaluates wetlands throughout the County.

Wetlands are an important component for water quality as they filter many of our pollutants and contaminants that can affect our lakes and ground water. The program monitors the trends in water quality, promotes wetland stewardship, and determines the quality of the selected wetlands. The health of these wetlands also gives the City insight into our current practices and may help provide direction for future planning and prioritizing decisions.

For more information on how to become a WHEP participant, contact City of Apple Valley staff.
