VALLEY FREEDOM DAYS 2008
JUNE 26 - JULY 4
Apple Valley Freedom Days will kick off on Thursday, June
26, and will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show on the 4th at
Johnny Cake Ridge Park. In between these two marquee events, there will
be plenty to do for people of all ages and interests. Admission fees apply
to some of these events. More detailed information will be available in

Battle of the Bands
(Grades 9-12)
Thursday, June 26; 7-10:30 p.m.
$30 entry fee for bands / Free admission for spectators
Band registration deadline: Monday, June 23
High School bands compete for cash prizes and an opportunity to play at
the Dakota County Fair and Minnesota State Fair.
Dancin' & Cruisin'
(All ages)
Friday, June 27; 6 p.m.- Midnight
$10 entry to Bogart's and the Johnny Holm Band / Car show is free
Bogart's Place, 14917 Garrett Avenue
200+ classic cars, "DJ" Sounds, headliner Johnny Holm Band and
a variety of food offerings from Apple Valley restaurants. All gate proceeds
directly support Freedom Days Activities.
Adapted Dance for
Teens (Grades 6-12)
Friday, June 27; 7-9 p.m.
$5 pre registration or $8 at the door
Apple Valley Teen Center, 14255 Johnny Cake Ridge Road
Pre-registration deadline: June 25 (Pay at the door if after June 25)
A great mix of music in a festive atmosphere. Drinks and snacks included.
Voyageur Canoe Family
Outing (All ages)
Saturday, June 28; 10 a.m.-Noon
$5 per person / $15 per family
Farquar Lake, 13266 Pilot Knob Road
Registration Deadline: June 23
Wilderness Inquiry will visit Apple Valley and take families out in their
24 foot Voyageur canoe. Pre-registration is mandatory. Stop by the Apple
Valley Community Center, 14603 Hayes Road or call 952-953-2300 to register
for your time slot.
Minnesota Over 60 Band (All ages)
Sunday, June 29; 7-8:30 p.m.
Free; Hayes Park, 14603 Hayes Road
For over 40 years the Minnesota Over 60 band has performed in communities
throughout the state. You will hear music from the 40's & 50's including
big band, swing, polka's and waltzes. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to
sit on.
Kids Fishing Derby
(Ages 5-11)
Wednesday, July 2; 6 p.m.-dusk
Free; Lac Lavon Park15607 Highview Drive
Kids age 5-11 are invited to showcase their fishing skills and catch the
"big one". Prizes will be awarded in various categories. Bring
your fishing pole! Bait will be provided.
Cub Foods Family Fun Night (All ages)
Thursday, July 3; 6-9 p.m.
Free Admission (Food items and some amusements have costs associated with
them.)
Hayes Park, 14603 Hayes Road
Good old fashioned family fun! Activities include a petting zoo, pony
rides, Kid's Dance DJ, kids dress up parade, jumpers, games, appearances
by Apple Valley Police, Fire and ALF Ambulance.

Friday, July 4; 6:30 a.m. registration
/ 8 a.m. race start time
Pre-Registration (prior to July 4) = $7 & $15 for race and t-shirt
Day of Race Registration: $10 / $18 for race and t-shirt
Hayes Park, 14603 Hayes Road
A two and five mile race will begin in Hayes Park. There is also a Half-Pint
Half-Mile for young runners. Pre-register at the Apple Valley Community
Center, 14603 Hayes Road.

p.m. Freedom Days Parade Over 100 units one of the
states largest. (Pennock Avenue & Fireside Drive, north to 145th
Street, west to Hayes Road, north to Apple Valley High School)

Valley Freedom Days Parade (All ages)
Friday, July 4; 1 p.m.
One of the state's largest and most respected parades begins promptly
at 1 p.m. The parade begins at Pennock Avenue & Fireside Drive and
travels north, turns left (west) onto 145th street, turns right (north)
onto Hayes Road and concludes at Apple Valley High School. Spectators
are reminded that they are not allowed to place their belongings on sidewalks,
streets, adjacent city properties and boulevards until 9 a.m. on July
3. After the parade all belongings must be removed by 4 p.m.
Items placed on the route prior to 9 a.m. on July 3 and left on the parade
route after 4 p.m. will be removed by the City of Apple Valley and stored
at the Apple Valley Sports Arena, 14452 Hayes Road. This is a city ordinance
that will be enforced. For more information call the Parks and Recreation
Department at 952-953-2300 for more information.

One of the metro's most spectacular fireworks shows with a legendary grand
finale! If this event is rained out it will be made up at 10 p.m. on July
5 without the "pre-fireworks" activities.
