Minutes of Traffic Safety Advisory Committee

Committee members present: Dick Asleson, Harald Ericksen, Linda Dolan, Arthur Zimmerman, Neal Heuer, Merle Lohse,
Committee members absent: Andy Pederson

Chair Dolan called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
MOTION: of Asleson, seconded by Lohse, approving the agenda for today’s meeting. Motion passed unanimously.
MOTION: of Asleson, seconded by Lohse, approving the April 11, 2001 meeting minutes. Motion passed unanimously.
Chair Dolan introduced Arthur Zimmerman as the new committee member. Committee member Zimmerman is filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Craig Jenson.
Neal Heuer explained to Denise Louis the process for traffic complaints. Linda Dolan clarified the procedure of complaints at previous meetings and residents attending.
Due to an evening of bad weather and sirens going off, Chair Dolan needed to be dismissed at 7:20 to return home. Meeting was then chaired by Vice-Chair Ericksen in Dolan’s absence.
Mr. Glen Van Wormer, Transportation Engineer for Short Elliot Hendricksen, Inc. and Consultant Traffic Engineer for the City of Apple Valley, gave a presentation to the committee on traffic signals.
Neal Heuer informed the committee that the new signal to be installed at 140th and Hayes Road will have a timer on the walk signal so pedestrians will know how many seconds are left before the light changes. Mr. Heuer also informed the committee that 100% of the signals in the city are equipped with the traffic signal preemption system.
Chair Dolan returned at 7:30. Shortly after sirens began to sound again, the Committee went downstairs. Decision was made to adjourn the meeting at 7:55 due to weather conditions.
