CO Detectors

A Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector is a device used to detect carbon monoxide gas in your home. They can be battery operated, hard wired, or may plug into an electrical outlet.

Carbon monoxide is an odorless gas that is a by-product of the burning of natural gas, wood, and other fuels. It is also present in the exhaust from a vehicle. It can be very dangerous to breathe for any length of time in a confined space.

CO detectors are a good way to protect occupants of your home from this potential danger. They should be placed in the home and tested according to the manufactures recommendations.

State Statute 299F.50 requires a CO detector in :
1. All new homes built after January 1, 2007. 2. All existing single family homes, effective August 1, 2008. 3. All multifamily and apartment homes, effective August 1, 2009.
CO detectors should be installed within ten feet of each bedroom.
