Residential Building Inspections Inspections are performed to check for building code compliance. Different construction projects have different inspections that must be performed. Contractors normally know what inspections must be done. If you do not know, please call us at (952) 953-2588 and verify the required inspections for your project. The City copy of each building permit will have all inspections recorded on it. This is the official record of inspections. An inspection card is also given to the permit applicant to keep on the jobsite. If this card is available to the inspector, the inspections will be recorded on it as well. It is important to understand that our inspection does not guarantee that all work complies with all code requirements. Our inspections are spot checks of the work. Contractors make many changes after our inspections. If there is any question as to why some aspect of a construction project may not meet code, it is the contractor that is responsible for code compliance. Inspection by the city also does not guarantee that the work is free from construction or material defects.Required Inspections It is not possible to list the required inspections for every type of construction project. Some of the more common required inspections are footings, foundation, framing, insulation, plumbing, and heating. All projects require a final inspection. Electrical permits and inspections are handled by the state. Contact the State Board of Electricity for information at (651) 284-5064. If you are unsure as to what inspections must be done for your project, call us at (952) 953-2588 before the work begins. Do not cover work that may need inspection until you are sure it has been checked.
