Register to Vote If you have not yet registered to vote, forms are available at City Hall, Dakota County Western Service Center and Apple Valley License Bureau. Pre-registration saves time for everyone on election day. Your registration is permanent provided you vote at least once every four years and do not change your residence or name. If you do not pre-register, you may register to vote at the polls by providing proof of residence to the election judges. The following forms of identification are authorized by the Secretary of State to prove your residence: 1. Valid Minnesota drivers license, learners permit, or identification card (or receipt for one) showing your address in the precinct. 2. Minnesota drivers license, learners permit, or identification card with a former address and a current utility bill* showing your address in the precinct. 3. U.S. passport and a current utility bill* showing your address in the precinct. 4. US military identification card and a current utility bill* showing your address in the precinct. 5. Tribal Identification Card with name, current address, signature, and picture, or without address and current utility bill* showing your address in the precinct. 6. Another registered voter in your precinct who can confirm your residence. 7. Your registration at a previous address in the same precinct. 8. Notice of ineffective registration mailed from the County Auditor. * The utility bill must show the voter’s name and current address. The bill must be due within 30 days of the election. The bill may be for electric, gas, telephone, cable television, solid waste, cell phone, or water and sewer services.
