Airport Runway Noise Information
Living in Apple Valley, we all enjoy convenient access to the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. But our proximity to the airport also has negative noise consequences after a new runway opened in October 2005. The new runway, called Runway 17/35, was built by the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) to increase the overall capacity of the airport. The communities of Bloomington, Eagan, Burnsville and Apple Valley now receive more frequent aircraft over flights from arriving and departing aircraft. The new runway is expected to handle 17% of arrivals and 37% of departures at the airport annually.
The MAC holds quarterly public input and informational meetings. Much of the noise information presented at the meetings can be found on the MAC web site www.macnoise.com. Link to the MAC Noise web site for current meeting schedule >>> The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) is the responsible government unit for receiving complaints on airport noise. To link directly to the MAC web site to submit a complaint form >>> or to call in a complaint, dial (612) 726-9411. Still have questions about the runway or airport noise? Link to the Apple Valley web site page with Common Questions (FAQ's) about the runway >>> Comparable Locations at Similar Distance from Airport Many people have expressed an interest in comparing Apple Valley's location to that of other cities off of the existing runways. Below is a map that shows Distance From MSP Reference. This map allows Apple Valley residents to view other locations within the Metro Area that are a similar distance from the MSP Reference. The MAC website allows users to add flight track layers so that areas with similar flight patterns can be identified.
