Crosswalk Regulations
The Apple Valley Police Department reminds drivers and pedestrians of their responsibilities in crosswalks. Drivers: SS 169.21 Subd 2: Where traffic control signals are not in place or in operation, the driver of a motor vehicle shall stop to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a marked crosswalk or within any crosswalk at an intersection. When any vehicle is stopped at a marked crosswalk or at any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection to permit a pedestrian to cross the roadway, the driver of any other vehicle approaching from the rear shall not overtake and pass the stopped vehicle. Pedestrians: SS 169.21 Subd 2. a. No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it is impossible for the driver to yield. Subd 3: Every pedestrian crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway.
